Program Overview
The exercise of power in its many forms and consequences: the ethics of power, political ideas such as liberty and justice, the historical, economic and social forces on politics, and how the US and other political systems work. How competitive: for fall 2025, UC Berkeley admitted 11% of its 126,864 first-year applicants; it publishes no separate figure for international applicants. UC sets no IB minimum and no subject requirement: international applicants must finish secondary school and be eligible for a competitive university at home, predicted IB scores are never the only factor, and SAT or ACT scores are not considered. You choose this major as your primary major when you apply, and Berkeley reviews only that choice. In Letters & Science, if you are admitted with this as your primary major you are guaranteed a place in it (High Demand Majors policy).
