Program Overview

The bachelor's program in Biochemistry links chemistry and biology as well as traversing the interface between chemistry, biology, and medicine. How TUM decides: an aptitude assessment. TUM's score out of 100 weights your IB total, converted to a German grade, at 50% and your grades in maths (×2), English and your best science (×2) at 30%, and relevant training or extra qualifications at 20%. A score of 95 or more admits you, 66 or less does not, and in between you are invited to an interview. On TUM's formula, with 6s in those subjects and no relevant training or extra qualifications, no IB total passes outright, so expect an interview, and 37 or below is turned down (our calculation from TUM's rules, not a figure TUM publishes). Teaching is in German. Your IB proves your German only with German A at HL; otherwise TUM asks for a certificate such as DSH-2, TestDaF with 4 in all four parts, or telc Deutsch C1 Hochschule.
