Program Overview
The Bachelor's program in Engineering Science conveys broad foundational knowledge of the discipline as well as thorough knowledge of mathematics and the natural sciences. How TUM decides: an aptitude assessment. TUM's score out of 100 weights your IB total, converted to a German grade, at 65% and your grades in maths (×2), German, English and each science you took (computer science included) at 35%. A score of 82 or more admits you, 74 or less does not, and in between you are invited to an interview. On TUM's formula, with 6s in those subjects, an IB total of 37 or more passes outright, and 33 or below is turned down (our calculation from TUM's rules, not a figure TUM publishes). Teaching is in German. Your IB proves your German only with German A at HL; otherwise TUM asks for a certificate such as DSH-2, TestDaF with 4 in all four parts, or telc Deutsch C1 Hochschule.
