Program Overview

Economics explores how and why people make decisions and choose between alternative ways of spending their money and using their time, energy and skills. That is why Economics can help to shed light on decision-making in areas from love and marriage, to sports and crime. If you are interested in people's behaviour and in current affairs, and if you enjoy problem-solving and are naturally analytical with good numeracy skills, then Economics will appeal to you. How competitive: applicants from the EU apply through the CAO and are ranked on points. In round 1 of 2026, places went to applicants with 544 points or more. UCD does not publish how it scores the IB. On Trinity College Dublin's indicative scale for the IB, and counting the 25 points that this course's Higher Level Mathematics adds, that is about 38 points. Applicants from outside the EU apply to UCD directly, where 29 points makes them eligible to compete for a place.
