Law with Economics (BCL)

Program Overview

This course allows you to obtain a highly respected degree in Irish law, whilst simultaneously acquiring a broad knowledge of economics. Certain areas of law (e.g. competition, regulation and intellectual property) are heavily influenced by economic theory. BCL (Law with Economics) graduates are uniquely equipped to understand these regulatory frameworks in all of their conceptual complexity. On this degree, you will embark on a field of cross-disciplinary study which is intellectually very demanding, but also enriching and of practical importance. How competitive: applicants from the EU apply through the CAO and are ranked on points. In round 1 of 2026, places went to applicants with 559 points or more. UCD does not publish how it scores the IB. On Trinity College Dublin's indicative scale for the IB, and counting the 25 points that this course's Higher Level Mathematics adds, that is about 40 points. Applicants from outside the EU apply to UCD directly, where 33 points makes them eligible to compete for a place.
