Classical Civilisation (Joint Honours)

Program Overview

What is Classical Civilisation? The study of Classical Civilisation is concerned with the literature, thought and culture of Ancient Greece and Rome. Through the examination and contextualisation of literary works and the analysis of the main aspects of ancient history and art, you will develop a thorough knowledge of the classical world and a critical approach to Greek and Roman literature. All texts are studied in translation and no knowledge of Greek or Latin is required, but there are opportunities to study the languages at an introductory level. How competitive: applicants from the EU apply through the CAO, and each Joint Honours pair of subjects is ranked on points. In round 1 of 2026, the pairs with Classical Civilisation took from 433 to 577 points, depending on the other subject. On Trinity's indicative scale for the IB, that is from about 32 to about 43 points, or less with Higher Level Mathematics at 4 or better, which adds 25. Applicants from outside the EU apply to Trinity directly and are assessed individually.
