Economics (Joint Honours)

Program Overview

Any society has to address the problem of how and what to produce for its material survival, and how the goods and services that are produced should be distributed among its population. Economists explore how people and institutions behave and function when producing, exchanging and using goods and services. Economists’ main motivation is to find mechanisms that encourage efficiency in the production and use of material goods and resources, while at the same time producing a pattern of income distribution that society finds acceptable. How competitive: applicants from the EU apply through the CAO, and each Joint Honours pair of subjects is ranked on points. In round 1 of 2026, the pairs with Economics took from 601 to 613 points, depending on the other subject. Both are above the 600 an IB Diploma alone earns on Trinity's indicative scale, so they took Higher Level Mathematics at 4 or better, which adds 25: about 43 to 44 points with it. Applicants from outside the EU apply to Trinity directly and are assessed individually.
