Program Overview

Nanoscience is the study of materials and devices at the nanoscale (<100 nm), a scale at which many exotic properties and behaviours come to the fore, leading to applications including advanced catalysis, biomedical imaging, batteries, and solar cells among many others. Nanoscience thus encompasses the design, synthesis, characterisation, testing, and use of such materials and devices, and lies at the interface of Chemistry and Physics. How competitive: applicants from the EU apply through the CAO and are ranked on points. In round 1 of 2026, places went to applicants with 534 points or more. On Trinity's indicative scale for the IB, that is about 40 points, or about 38 with Higher Level Mathematics at 4 or better, which adds 25. Applicants from outside the EU apply to Trinity directly and are assessed individually.
